The Pequots lived a few miles north of where Norwich, Connecticut is today. Their name means “Destroyers”. There were 3,000 of them in 1637. They spoke the Algonquian language. The Pequot’s lived side by side with the British at first, but soon things changed. The Pequots were not happy with the incoming setters taking land. In 1637 the Pequot war began. Unfortunately for the Pequots, they lost this war and their tribe was broken up. By Sasha and Kayla
